• Ebony Frog: The frog, or "haussier," is made from ebony, providing durability and a traditional aesthetic.

What is Coruss ?

Coruss is a French company founded in 2016 by orchestra musicians and bow makers. After three years of intense research and development, we created our Innovative synthetic horsehair:

• Exceptional durability: Coruss bow hair is extremely strong, allowing for intense and prolonged play without frequent rehairing. 
   
• Unaffected by climate variations: Unlike natural horsehair, Coruss synthetic hair is not influenced by changes in temperature and humidity, ensuring consistent performance in any environment. 
   
• High-quality performance: This synthetic material offers performance comparable to triple A horsehair (lab tested )  
   
• Customization: Available in nine colors, including white and black, allowing musicians to express their style without compromising sound quality.

Our story  

In 2016, musicians from the Toulouse Chamber Orchestra noticed a decline in horsehair quality and approached our lutherie workshop to discuss the issue. This led us on a journey to the steppes of Mongolia, where we learned that global warming was affecting the quality of the grass, and consequently, the horsehair. Additionally, the increasing demand for horsehair had led producers to lower their selection standards and, in some cases, chemically bleach the hair, compromising its quality.

After three years of research and development, we proudly introduced Coruss synthetic bow hair.

To cater to the new generation of musicians, we developed nine different colors (including white and black) to offer something different. We now sell it on our bows without animal matter, so everybody, including vegans, can buy it.
